What is Compost?
Compost is an organically alive soil which is a controlled microbiological environment. In compost there is a very rapid growth of biology taking place all the time. This is an ideal environment to have extremely high concentrations of good micro-organisms dealing with the bad ones. Humic substances form a very important component of this.
Why Use Compost?
- To retain nutrients in the soil, so that they don't leach from the root zone.
- To cycle nutrients into plant available forms.
- To improve uptake of soil or foliar nutrients.
- To break down pollutants in the soil, on and above ground surfaces or around the roots.
Microbiology moves nutrients from bed rock or parent soil to readily available plant nutrients. Many tests don’t show total nutrients in the soil. When Microbiology is used a lot of these nutrients "suddenly appear".
