We clebrated 50 years in business in 2023!
Organics recycling
We receive and process much of metropolitan Adelaide’s green organics through council kerbside and business collections, as well as food organics from hotels, supermarkets, schools, office buildings, food processors and manufacturers utilising our globally famous BiobiN organic waste collection and on-site processing facilities amongst many other collection methods.
Landscape and garden supplies
We offer a range of popular Peats-manufactured compost, soil and mulch products. They are available at numerous retail outlets across South Australia or provided directly to landscapers, civil contractors, schools and local government organisations.
Horticultural products
We cater to broad acre, vineyards, vegetable growers, orchards, nut growers and turf management specialists with our range of Australian Standard and NASAA certified organic compost, soil, mulch and top-dressing products. We use our unique Peats SSS™ (Soil Solution System) to tailor make the most ideal product that will maximise our client’s output and value.
Company History
Peter Wadewitz is the Managing Director of both Peats Soils & BiobiN® Technologies.
Peter’s interest in mulch started some 45 years ago when he started collecting bark offcuts for timber yards on the weekends with his shovel and trailer.
From there…
He started supplying a landscaper, then 2 then 3 then so on. Then he started collecting compost and made potting mix from his Dad’s nursery in Plympton. He would bag it up into clear bags. The name “Peats Soil” came about when one of the staff suggested that it had peat in it, and Pete made it so why don’t you call it Peats Soil? So Peter used to staple a piece of cardboard to the top of the bag and write “Peats Soil” across it.
Over the years…
From then, contracts with companies such as SA Plywoods came about to take their bark on a daily basis. An old screener was purchased so that bark could be screened onsite, and the bagging of bark for the likes of Lasscocks and MF Hodge began. Then the Plympton nursery moved to Willunga where both soil and plants were sold. The Willunga depot then took all the paunch and manure/sludge from metro meats in Noarlunga, which led to composting and making all kinds of different soil mixes.
Today…
We have 3 depots and compost all sorts of green organics, sludge, manures and greenwaste. Peats and BiobiN®, are now gradually expanding globally. We have over 80 staff, have our own fleet of B Double Semis and are continually expanding. Whether it’s bulk or bag Peats will deliver on quality, performance and above all provide the solution to the problems that each client may have.
Peats in the Community
We are a proud South Australian company with great vision for the future whilst not forgetting the past and ensuring our commitment to many human and animal charitable organisations is paramount. Through the select injection of sponsorship dollars, Peats Soils support the communities that in turn support the use of recovered organic mulches and compost.
Every Year, Peats Soil supports the Little Heroes Foundation by making a donation in lieu of sending Christmas Cards. Below is a list of all the other great causes and local sporting clubs that we support.
