We advise that organic compost and
composted mulches are produced from recycled green organics and as such
may contain minimal levels of contaminated materials (e.g. plastic,
paper, glass, metal, sharps etc.) Metal sharps could include nails,
screws, wire, hypodermic syringes etc. Precautionary measures such as
the wearing of gloves and enclosed footwear is recommended.
As processors we endeavour to minimise the level of contamination by
processing to the best practice guidelines.
For safety purposes the following warning advice should be adhered to:
WARNING
Concerns are often raised regarding
the proper use and handling of organic materials. Please read the
following information and take the appropriate safety measures to
minimise any risk to your health and/or safety.
Products made from organic materials may contain living micro-organisms
including bacteria, fungi and protozoa.
RISK: Direct
contact with this material or it's dust or moisture may cause skin
irritation (dermatitis), skin infection or eye irritation.
Inhalation of dust or moisture droplets may irritate, inflame or
sensitise the nose, throat and lungs resulting in illnesses ranging from
hay fever, asthma to pneumonia (Legionella) or pneumonia like diseases.
SAFETY: Avoid
contact with eyes and skin. Avoid breathing dust or moisture droplets.
Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves (AS 2161). If exposed to
dust or moisture droplets, also wear eye protection (AS/NZ 1337) and
respirator (AS/NZ 1715 and 1718).
Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash work clothes separately from other
clothes. Clean up by wet sweeping or vacuuming.
FIRST AID:
Irrigate eyes with plenty of water for 10 minutes. Wash skin with soap
and water. Seek medical attention for any persistent skin, eye or
respiratory symptoms. |
